Solar skill

Opening reception thursday, june 3 2010 - 7 pm
june 4 – july 24, 2010
After the unbridled urbanisation of the last twenty years and the new wave of immigration, European cities have focused attention on the limitations in the architecture of the past. All the negative aspects of Functionalism have been exposed, which, considering the construction as a commodity in itself, used mankind as an instrument.
Solar skill is an exhibition that examines the life of human beings inside the urban context. Reflecting on the relationship between the Individual and Architecture, in an intense analysis of both the ‘ego’ and happiness. The Sun acts upon the city in a persistent and total manner, baking it slowly, alluding to a canvas of fading colours scorched by time, becoming empirical and tangible through its warmth and rays.
The opal sky that the city has built allows us to see it is heavy with the effects of progress, which as fine grains of dust enshroud all the people and return inside them via the lungs.
The inexhaustible solar activity upon the city measures the falsity of time, evoking an abstract sensation of the vacuum of ‘being’ that can only be resolved through individual initiatives.
